My Musical Journey

Carnatic Classical Music

I have been listening and learning to music as early as I have been 4 years old. My first Guru (Teacher) is my mom. My maternal grandmother is a Veena artist. Hence, music has been an integral part of my life.

I have grown up listening to various artists and learning from different Gurus. Sri Sai Kumar Kolanka, a famous Violinist from South India has been my Guru for several years. I am currently under the tutelage of Smt. Thanmayee Krishnamurthy, one of the most most sought after Carnatic musicians of this generation. Thanmayee Akka has been my motivation to continue learning and practicing and to instill the great values of this art form of music and the divinity of music.

I have performed various concerts in US for Thyagaraja Aradhana, Annamacharya Aradhana, Purandara Dasa Aradhana, Saptami Foundation, etc. and helped raise funds for charity organizations from Suswana Sangeetha school of music.

Here is a compilation of a few performances – Carnatic Music.

Some of the music work I did –

TRIBUTE TO MY ANCESTORS

My maternal ancestors were highly philosophical and were very gifted. They have created several compositions. It was my grand mother’s dream to create an album of those compositions in their honor. I have been fortunate to sing a few songs and contribute to the album and paid my tributes to them who have created such divine compositions.

Saint Annamacharya was a 15th century musician who composed 32000 compositions. Isn’t it amazing and mind blowing to achieve such a thing in one’s lifetime? I have had the privilege to learn a few of Annamacharya compositions and perform and various temples and sabhas.

Participated in a few “Saptami Foundation – Value the world series” concerts, during the pandemic! I was excited and grateful for this opportunity as this art form was a way to thank all those front line workers who kept us safe and secure and these online concerts were held in their honor, as well as cherish our lives through music and be thankful for everything we have and value the world. So, these concerts have definitely been very special to my heart!

Thyagaraja Aradhana is an annual music festival observed/celebrated in the glory of Saint Thyagaraja and his wealth of compositions. I have had the honor of performing several years on this occasion.

This was my first solo Carnatic concert where I performed this traditional art form along with accompanists (Violin and Mridangam). I performed 5 compositions. Although I was nervous at the beginning, my teacher (Guru) Smt. Thanmayee Krishnamurthy was there to support and encourage me. I had wonderful audiences who applauded after every composition. It was a wonderful experience and I cherish the blessings I received from one and all.

Performed a virtual fundraising concert for Sumedha, a non profit organization to support education for underprivileged kids in India. Sumedha is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving the rich and varied culture alive and helping people in need. I always believed that every child should have an opportunity to learn and I am very thankful to have contributed to the great cause through my musical art form. This opportunity also helped me gain more confidence, better communication skills and responsibility. I am thankful to all my friends and family who helped me raise funds and I will cherish all the wonderful feedback and blessings I received.

JAPANESE MUSIC

Although primarily learning Carnatic classical music, I have developed a strong liking to the Japanese Music. I’ve been listening to Japanese music for around four years now, and I really enjoy the unique style behind it. Furthermore, I love the traditional touches of ancient Japanese music as well.

I’ve currently learned around 15 songs in Japanese (currently learning more!), and, while it’s very fun for me to do so, it’s also helped me increase and learn my Japanese vocabulary.
